Description:Wu Xuancao suffered from liver cancer in his later years and because of the severity of his illness his sons and heirs decided to commission the scholar Yang Yunping to compile and edit a collection of his poetry, entitling it The Lotus Eaters Fairyland Poetry Collection and dividing it into two volumes. When putting Wu’s effects in order following his death, some unpublished poems were discovered and so a continuation” volume was added. The book front has the title calligraphy done by Xue Renyang, a sample of Wu Xuancao’s handwriting, an inscription by Luo Xianglin, and a preface by Li Tengyue, Chairman of the Archive of Taiwan Province. Following this there is a “posthumous manuscript” by Wu Xuancao, elegies and funeral eulogies by poetry friends, “Brief Biography” of Wu Xuancao by Wu Xinrong, one of his offspring, as well plates and postscripts. This continuation volume of poetry shows Wu did not rigidly adhere to technique but sought a poetic feature that revealed true sentiment—at the same time the last tributes paid to Wu give expression to the writer’s progression of thought, his character emphasizing freedom of action, and his lifelong perseverance in upholding the Chinese language poetic tradition.

其他說明:吳萱草晚年罹患肝病，由於病情頗為嚴重，遂有子嗣研議請託學者楊雲萍為其編纂詩集，題名《忘憂洞天詩集》，分為上下二卷；當他過世後，在清理遺物時，發現部分未發表的詩作，再編續卷，即為此書。書前頁有薛人仰簽題、「遺墨」、「駱香林題字」、台灣省文獻會主委李騰嶽所撰序文；其後則是吳萱草「遺稿」、各地詩友祭故人的輓詩弔文「誄詞」、吳萱草哲嗣吳新榮為其撰寫的「小傳」、以及圖版、跋文等。詩集續卷除顯現吳萱草不拘泥於技巧，但求真情流露的詩作特色，同時亦可藉由後人的追悼文字體現其思想進步、行動自由的人格，以及一生維繫漢詩傳統的堅持。
