Description:The Free China Journal was published from November 1949 to September 1960 and was run by mainland China liberals and political figures like Hu Shih, Lei Zhen, and Yin Haiguang who promoted its publication following their arrival in Taiwan after 1949. In the Taiwan marketplace of political discussion this journal occupied a decisive position. Under the authoritarian rule of the Nationalist Party in Taiwan, it was almost the only publication on the table where one could hear the sound of dissent throughout the entire decade of the 1950s. In the very beginning, The Free China Journal published “literary and art” pieces but through the 1950s the journal published 260 issues and more than 400 articles on a wide variety of topics. The idea behind publishing this journal can be seen in its call for article submissions appearing in the inaugural issue: anti-totalitarian essays, discussion, fiction, woodblock prints, and photographs.

3.《自由中國》自1949年11月發行到1960年9月停刊，由1949年之後中國大陸來台灣的自由主義者以及政治人物所主持、推動出版，如胡適、雷震、殷海光等人。該雜誌在台灣的言論市場上佔有舉足輕重的地位，在國民黨於台灣的威權統治下，它幾乎是整個1950年代在檯面上唯一可以聽到的異議之聲的媒體刊物。在《自由中》上從創刊起即有刊載文學作品的「文藝」，貫穿1950年代，隨著雜誌發行260期，共計發表了400多篇作品，文類多樣。從其創刊號徵稿上可見發行理念：反極權的論文、談論、小說、木刻、照片等。
