Description:Titled Yu Zhong Qing Huai [“Reflections in Prison”] by its creator, Annette Lu (Lu Hsiu-lien), this calligraphy artwork, dated December 10, 1980, is divided into two sections. The upper section features six 4-character phrases, which read: “Life Is Like a Dream / Don’t Take it Too Seriously / Pride and Shame Will Be Forgotten / Conceal Your Emotions / Misfortune Might Be a Blessing in Disguise / Fame and Wealth Matter Little to Me.” In the margins is written “Reflections after one year in prison.” The lower section features a modified version of Ming Dynasty Confucian scholar Gu Xian-cheng’s famous line, “In my ears are the sounds of wind, rain, and reading, and in my concern are the affairs of home, state, and people.” Lu’s inscription reads “The sounds of wind, rain, and reading cannot reach my ears, and the affairs of home, state, and people are beyond my concern.” The two sections are affixed to a single scroll. In the bottom left corner is a drawing of a lotus plant, and in the upper left corner is written “Reflections in prison.”

摘要:本件藏品為呂秀蓮寫於身陷囹圄期間的「獄中情懷」，落款日期為1980-12-10，分成兩部分：一部分以六句四言句組成，寫「人生如夢／何事當真／寵辱皆忘／喜怒不形／福禍難定／名利兩輕」落款處註記：「蒙難周年感懷」﹔另一部分，改寫明朝大儒顧憲成名句「風聲雨聲讀書聲聲聲入耳，家事國事天下事事事關心」，寫成：「風聲雨聲讀書聲聲聲難聞，家事國事天下事事事無關」。兩部分書法貼於同一張書帖上，左下角印有荷花與荷葉圖案，左上題有：「獄中情懷」。（文／高維志）

其他說明:1.呂秀蓮（1944-06-06/）生於日治台灣新竹州桃園郡桃園街，客家人，美國哈佛大學法學碩士，曾任中華民國第10-11屆副總統、民主進步黨代理黨主席、桃園縣縣長、總統府國策顧問、立法委員等職。曾於1979年「美麗島事件」後獲罪判刑12年，實際坐牢1933天。（文／高維志）
