2.作者於〈自序〉中提到出版的理由有二：一、《亞細亞的孤兒》在日本出版後，雖有中文譯本問世，但並不完整，因此藉由本書修補，求其完善。二、蒐集舊作，防其散失。同時自清該書實非自傳性質。全書429頁共收19篇作品，包含完整的《亞細亞的孤兒》；〈水月〉、〈泥沼中的金鯉〉、〈歸兮自然〉、〈功狗〉、〈先生媽〉、〈陳大人〉、〈糖扞仔〉、〈菠茨坦科長〉、〈狡猿〉、〈銅臭〉、〈三八淚〉、〈老薑更辣〉、〈幕後的支配者〉等，以及二篇葉石濤的評論文章。

Description:In the “author’s preface” Wu Zhuoliu touches upon the two reasons for publishing this book: 1) although there was a Chinese translation of Orphan of Asia following its publication in Japan, it was not a full translation and so the novel was revamped to make it complete, and 2) to prevent their being lost, old works were collected together. At the same time it’s obvious that this book is not in the nature of an autobiography. The book contains all together 19 pieces, including the complete Orphan of Asia, “Jellyfish,” “The Golden Carp in the Mud,” “Meritorious Dog,” “The Doctor’s Mother,” “Master Chen,” “Sugar Graft Boy,” “The Potsdam Department Head,” “The Cunning Ape,” “The Stink of Money,” “Tears of 1949,” “Old Ginger is Hotter,” and “Powers Behind the Scene,” as well as two Ye Shitao critical reviews.
