Description:Lin Wuxian’s forte is Taiwanese vernacular poetry. This poem, “I Am a Sweet Potato,” uses the form and function of the familiar “sweet potato” as a metaphor for the ideas one should adhere to and the road one should follow growing up on this island of Taiwan. The subject, “I,” is a symbol for the Taiwanese people and the island of Taiwan.

Poems written entirely in Chinese characters are suited for being read in Taiwanese.
