2.　本書為中文小說《無花果》在德國出版的英譯版本。《無花果》是吳濁流於69歲那一年（1968）起筆完稿的作品，在這本自傳體小說中，作家以直率的筆觸描寫他親身見聞的二二八事件真相，欲藉此將畢生思想行事作一交代，纂錄其為文學現身的心路歷程，並且寫出屬於台灣人的歷史。此書英文副標題為「台灣愛國者的回憶」（Memoirs of a Taiwanese Patriot），列於德國漢學家馬漢茂（Helmut Martin）主編《中國論文集》叢書第一種。馬漢茂在德文序中從台灣文學的背景、吳濁流文學事業、台灣文學的反抗性、台灣國民意識的興起及台灣文學的展望等不同層面向讀者介紹此書。

Description:This is the English translation published in Germany of the Chinese novel (Wu hua guo). The Fig Tree was begun and finished by Wu Zhuoliu at the age of 69 in 1968. In this short biographical-style novel the author frankly and head-on describes the true picture of the February 28 Incident as he personally experienced it and uses this as a backdrop to convey and explain a lifetime of thoughts and actions. Wu records his personal journey to becoming a man of letters and writes about the history that belongs to every Taiwanese. The subtitle of the book in English is “Memoirs of a Taiwanese Patriot” and was included as the first volume in the series Papers on China edited by the German sinologist Dr. Helmut Martin. In the German introduction Dr. Martin covers the background of Taiwanese literature, Wu Zhuoliu’s literary career, the spirit of opposition that characterized Taiwanese literature and the rise of Taiwanese national consciousness, as well as the future of Taiwanese literature.
