Description:This novel of 420,000 characters essentially revolves around Chinese history between the beginning of the Sino-Japanese War in 1937 to the relocation of the Nationalist Government in 1949 to Taiwan. Interwoven with the male hero’s love story and experiences, the novel retails the social conditions of a tumultuous era, and the actions and thinking of the people who lived through it. The author uses the “color blue to represent enlightenment, freedom, and goodness” and the “color black to represent degeneration, depravity, and evil” to symbolize social forces that “rise upward” and those that “sink downward.” In the more than 50 years since this novel was published in February 1958 it has been continuously republished by different publishers, reaching almost one million copies sold. It has been translated into English, French, German, and has many times been made into a movie, TV series, and stage play. The Museum holds a first edition.

其他說明:1.本書為42萬字之長篇小說，內容主要以1937年中、日開戰到1949年國民政府播遷來台之間的中國歷史為軸線，透過男主角的愛情故事與生命歷程，敘寫動亂時代的社會狀況、人民的行為與想法，作者以「代表光明、自由、善良的藍色」與「代表墮落、沉淪、罪惡的黑色」，分別象徵「向上提升」與「向下沉淪」之社會力量。
2.本書自1958年2月出版之後，五十多年來，由不同出版社不斷再版，累計發行量近百萬本，先後被譯成英、法、德文，並多次改編成電影、電視劇、舞台劇。此件為最早版本。
