Introduction:Shi Xinshui, President of The Philippine Minlila Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, presented on October 31, 1960, a piece of encomium to celebrating Chiang Kai-shek's 74th birthday. The encomium was written on a piece of pink paper with a brush and placed in a glass display case with its frame embellished with floral carving designs.
Congratulatory message for President Chiang Kai-shek's 74th birthday is as follows:
Great indeed is the chief of state. A man versed in both civil and military affairs, and accomplished at statecraft, resolves to follow the way of Heaven and Earth and to serve the people accordingly.
He lives in concord with neighboring states, and all under heaven ascribe perfect virtue to him. He restored former brilliance of the nation and created magnificent meritorious achievements.
Only, Heaven called down a blessing upon us to send this great man. Wish him remaining vigorous into his 84th year.
Rivers and mountains sing praises for celebrating this precious day. When the song of resurgence plays up, the whole world enjoys the spring together.
Respectfully, Shi Xinshui, President of The Philippine Minlila Chinese General Chamber of Commerce
The seal inscriptions read: "The Philippine Minlila Chinese General Chamber of Commerce."
There are more than one million Chinese in the Philippines, accounting for over 10% of the population, and almost all are Chinese descents from Fujian. They are mostly living in large cities, such as Manila (Local overseas Chinese are used to pronounce it "Minlila" with native accents), Cebu, and Davao. Because most of Chinese engaged in commercial business and took care of each other, the "Chinese Chamber of Commerce" has become one of the most powerful of the four local foreign chambers of commerce.
