"Chinese Women's Anti-Aggression League," or CWL, was founded in Taiwan by Madame Chiang, Soong May-ling, in April 1950. It was established with the aims of anti-communism and resisting Russia. In 1964, the league dropped the words resisting Russia and renamed Chinese Women's Anti-communist League. In 1996, changed its name again to National Women's League of the ROC. In the following year, it was registered with the name the NWL Foundation for Social Welfare, R.O.C., aiming to promote public welfare, educational issues, women's rights; safeguarding the handicapped, weak, and young; rewarding military officers, polices, gendarmerie personnel; strengthening international ties, and promoting national diplomacy.
