Introduction:F. K. Chang (Zhang, Feng-keng), a scientist from Taiwan, was invited by the United States National Academy of Sciences to participate in an exploration project to Antarctica. On December 9, 1959, Chang erected an ROC flag in front of Toney Mountain and took a picture of it. Later, he mailed the picture to President Chiang Kai-shek.

The picture shows a bright national flag of the ROC fluttering in the breeze on the vast expanse of the dazzling white ice field.
