Introduction:Featuring Amis transgender performer Hao Hao from the Matai’an community in Hualien, Misafafahiyan won the Jury Award at the 6th Pulima Art Award in 2023. Hao Hao’s life story is central to the piece. They once obtained an official singer’s license, and performed at the First Hotel in Taipei during the 1960s and 70s. Their performance venues ranged from nightclubs and Western restaurants to burlesque parlors and red envelope clubs. After these spaces declined, they eventually returned to their indigenous community to settle down. Through the use of song, dialogue, directorial techniques, and personal memory, the work unravels the concept of boundaries by exploring the relationships between Hao Hao and themselves, the public and Hao Hao, Hao Hao/the public and indigenous communities, as well as Hao Hao/the public and the transgender group. These intersecting and contrasting perspectives ultimately reframe how we perceive boundaries.

Author Introduction:「Posak Jodian」-Posak is an Amis artist based in Taipei. Her work primarily uses video as a medium, starting from her ethnic identity to explore the shaping of traditional community territories and the lived realities between urban spaces and indigenous homelands. Through visual art and cultural actions as a fulcrum, she seeks to expand the boundaries of identity and recognition. Posak is also a member of the artist collectives OCAC (Open Contemporary Art Center) and PMS.
