Introduction:This piece is an early work from artist Tsai Yi-hua's Swelling Series, where she focused on the female body, pondering the expression of "female corporeal sensation" from a sculptural perspective. The body is not merely composed of bone and flesh; "corporeal sensation" is also shaped by societal constructs like the virtuous ideals traditionally forced upon women, which in turn contribute to the swelling—a burden of excessive expectations. The artist employs soft, tactile materials to echo the body's suppleness, encouraging tactile engagement from viewers. The prostrate form, stretched upon an altar-like bed, has surrendered the will to resist or to maintain appearances, lying in a desolate and powerless collapse and awaiting its slow depletion, much like the wax-like liquid seeping from the body in the artwork.
