Introduction:Featuring the artist Li Mei-shu (1902–1983) as its subject, this work is set against the backdrop of Sanxia Zushi Temple. Approaching eighty years of age, Li sits alone in a wicker chair within the temple, a lifelong project of his that remains unfinished. His slightly hunched body leans forward, and his gaze is steady and profound, directed forward with resilience. Behind him, one can faintly see the dragon pillars of the main hall and the high platform. Nearby stands a bronze lion, crafted by Wu Jin-sheng based on Li's design. This image reflects Chang Chao-tang‘s collaborative work on the 1980s television documentary series ”The Journey of Image,” where he and others, including photographer Juan I-jong (1950 –), interviewed Li Mei-shu at the Sanxia Zushi Temple. Through this work, Chang integrates photography with documentary filmmaking, providing a poignant portrayal of one of Taiwan's influential artists in his later years.
