Introduction:The Musician depicts a performer holding a traditional Chinese plucked instrument. Wu Hao uses smooth, flowing lines to outline the figure and employs block-like segments and geometric shapes to experiment with Cubist techniques. The work also incorporates elements of traditional Chinese attire and hair accessories. The musician’s cheeks are adorned with bright circular lines in shades of white, light yellow, and vermilion. With a tilted head and a gesture of playing the instrument, the overall composition is lively and engaging. Wu, having studied under Lee Chun-shan for several years, co-founded the Ton-Fan Art Group with artists such as Ho Kan and Hsiao Chin in 1957. Compared to other members of the art society, Wu’s personal style is distinguished by a modern artistic form infused with Eastern aesthetics. This piece exemplifies his early works which not only explored geometric composition and graphic art within modern art but also incorporated traditional Chinese folk aesthetics, capturing a nostalgic yet modern style that defines Wu’s artistic vision.
