Introduction:Tourists in Tamsui is an oil painting created by Chen Yueh-li during her time living in Tamsui. The artwork captures landmarks including the bell tower of the Tamsui Church, the Night Plum Blossom tea house where the famous blind singer “the King of Kinmen” often performed, and the Stone Cake folk art shop that Chen operated with her daughter, Liu Siu-mei, for 15 years starting in 1985. This shop not only served as their financial foundation as they entered the art world but also became the place where Liu began her efforts to promote civilian arts education from 1992 onward. Furthermore, it stands as a historical record of the evolving everyday life in Tamsui. The artist draws from her personal experiences with local buildings and uses simple yet fluid brushstrokes and a vibrant style to capture the dynamic interactions between the people and culture of Tamsui, beautifully reflecting the distinctive lifestyle and atmosphere of the town.
