Introduction:This landscape painting by Hung Tung-piao features urban architecture. The Taipei County Cultural Center was inaugurated in 1983, which is a four-story, Western-style building with a redbrick appearance and arch windows. Today, it has been renamed the New Taipei City Art Center. The white building on the right is the auditorium annexed to the cultural center, designed by Kao Er-pan. The white columns and the protruding façade are its architectural features. In the painting, the sunshine cascades on the square, which is embellished with flows of visitors, whereas tents and parasols of various sizes create a visual effect of a colorful and bustling scene. Hung composes the painting with geometric division, and portrays the cold, modern redbrick architecture with lines and color blocks in different degrees of slant, which forms a lively expression informed by a vibrant sense of movement. On the other hand, the transparent quality of watercolor imbues the image with an atmosphere of elegant clarity.
