Introduction:In this large-scale oil painting, Lee Min-jong uses a playful title to introduce a fantastical and surreal world. At the center of the piece, a nude woman protrudes a vivid red tongue, creating a labyrinthine space. Throughout the canvas, familiar motifs from the artist’s work, such as “eyes,” distorted human faces, fish, cats, birds, and bizarre creatures, are scattered across the composition. These elements are rendered in a style full of strange shapes and vibrant colors, creating a fantasy realm akin to a whimsical game. The artist incorporates elements of pop music, comics, and video games from everyday life, blending them with graffiti and Neo-Expressionist painting styles. This unique fusion not only reveals Lee’s playful, mischievous character within the art world but also positions him as one of the emerging figures in Taiwan’s “New Vision” trend of the 1980s. The work reflects the vibrant and diverse spirit of Taiwan’s open society during this new era.
