Mountain Rhythm

Author:Hsu Yung-Chin(1951-2022)

Category:Ink Painting

Year:1989

Size description:68×66cm

Introduction:This painting features mountain ranges simplified into flat, wave-like shapes layered from bottom to top. Each layer features different undulations, alternating ink, colors, and textures. The towering ridges create a looming presence, with the faint skylight providing an exit from the otherwise dark scene. The moody greens and dark hues convey tranquility, with green, yellow-green, and deep ink forming alternating sections. Undulating lines traverse these layers, with ink dots scattered like stars, and two streaks of black adding depth. A streak of white cuts across the sky, and other areas in pale blue and light ink are created through water and ink splashing techniques and the wiping and washing skills to add depth and texture. Known for his modern calligraphic boldness, Hsu Yung-chin's mastery is showcased in his exploration between calligraphy and painting, color and ink, the figurative and the abstract, all part of his journey toward contemporary art.
