Introduction:In 2012, on a rainy night, artist Tsou Ting arrived at the scene of the Wenlin-Yuan urban renewal protest. As the excavator lunged toward demonstrators, a clash with the police ensued. Tsou documented the ordeal on her mobile phone. Back in her rented living space, she hung a projection screen and cast these captured moments onto it. This process of replaying the footage was recorded into the artwork Night Repose. Once the event was "flattened" through video recording and detached from "the scene," its replay in the domestic space interjected "the event" into the everyday life realm as if opening another kind of connection. This video work, with its multiple screens and the interweaving of various temporal and spatial sequences through image projection, allows viewers who were not present at the event to encounter it, thereby integrating it into their daily lives.
