Lan completed Folded Cloth and Lilies in 1990 at the age of 53. He thickly applied oil paint to present the square cloth on the red table and the lilies in the vase. Looking upward from the dark purple background, your focus is drawn to the stamens of the lilies and partially concealed chair with the rounded back. This visual effect from bottom to top is uncommon. It perhaps is representative of this artist's design style.
