Majestic Yushan

Wu Long-Rong (1935-)

Oil Painting

2004

Length:72.5 x Width:91 (cm)

He used a palette knife to create the texture of the high mountains, as well as a unique curved line technique to divide up the scene, developing separation through the layering of color intensities. Towering Yushan (Jade Mountain) in the far distance and steep, rocky cliffs in the near distance coordinate to create this majestic mountain scene. On the left side are a sea of clouds and clear azure blue sky, suggestive of high elevation. Yushan is Taiwan's highest mountain. In this painting, the artist portrayed the grandeur of Yushan while praising Nature's beauty.
Yushan is the tallest of Taiwan's hundreds of high peaks. It is also a favorite subject of Taiwanese painters. In this painting, Majestic Yushan, Wu emphasizes the contrast between the sea of clouds and the steep cliffs, creating a unique portrait of this mountain.
