The Longquan Station was once called the Ailiao Station. Construction began in 1922. In 1979, it was downgraded to a staffless station. There is no station building, but rather a simple waiting area covered in metal canopy. In 2001, the Taiwan Railways Adminstration restored the CK-124 steam locomotive, which is displayed during cultural events. In this painting, this steam locomotive is traveling along the Jiji Branch Line in Nantou County. Upon arriving at the Longquan Station, its steam whistle blows loudly, alerting everyone to its presence. This artist is very proficient in the use of light and shadow. In this painting, the platform plays the supporting role, emphasizing the sense of movement of this steam locomotive as it comes around the bend. Amid the green mountains, this train breaks the silence and viewers can feel the forward movement of this train.
A train is sometimes a symbol of travel or of leaving. It is also a beautiful image of a return to a simpler time. Viewers not only can appreciate the colors and lines of this painting, but also the happy memories that come to mind.
