Taroko (Tianxiang),

Takada Shojiro(1913-1989)

Oil Painting

Length:44.5 x Width:36 (cm)

This painting depicts the famous scenery of Tianxiang in Taroko Gorge. "Taroko" in the local indigenous language means grand mountain range. Following uplifting of the earth's crust, the waters of the Liwu River slowly cut through, exposing the marble rock and forming the steep cliff landscapes. In the foreground are green trees and cherry trees. In the distance, the looming peaks provide interesting contrast and reveal the time of day. Takata's Taroko provides a perspective on this area from a foreign artist.
