Long completed Taipei Morning at the age of 47. He emphasized artistic conception in developing his watercolor paintings. This painting depicts the Donghe Monastery and its bell tower in Taipei's Dongmen (East Gate) area. The sky is gradually whitening and the sun's rays are flowing over the archway onto the road, creating a rectangular area of incandescent light. The people are moving hurriedly among the shops, already busy early in the morning. The city gate, arcade and electric poles give this work a realistic and animated feel, like the opening scene of a movie. It seems to be filled with stories waiting to be told.
