Hsia Hsun(1931-)
Oil Painting

Length:31.5 x Width:40.5 (cm)
On top of a patterned tablecloth has been set a large round bowl. Inside are bright orange loquats. The apple on the side balances out the weight and responds to ten second apple inside the bowl.
Having studied under Lee Shih-Chiao, Hsia applied smearing methods to create layers of colors. From the overlapping of colors, the result is a natural halo effect that is both charming and graceful. It also reduces the heaviness of the oil paint. This artist has carried out research on the chemical changes in pigments. He is also adept at capturing air flow and temperature. This is what separates Hsia's works from those of other early Taiwanese painters.
