Jiujiu Peaks (Following an Earthquake)

Liu De-Lang(1958-)

Oil Painting

2000

Length:49.5 x Width:65 (cm)

The Jiujiu Peaks are a famous scenic spot in Nantou County. This series of connected and overlapping verdant peaks was considered one of Taiwan's top eight scenic landscapes during the Qing Dynasty. During the 921 Earthquake of 1999, collapses along these peaks caused them to be laid bare. After many years of afforestation and natural recovery, these peaks once again have vegetation. In this painting, we can see the barren peaks in the distance. Such damage to an area of natural beauty is painful to see.
The artist likes the original appearance and vitality of nature, and prefers to depict the beauty and grandeur of he mountains. After finishing school, he continued to study sketching and famous paintings in art history. He does not allow himself to be limited by academicism. Instead, he searches for what he believes are the most beautiful scenes.
