Chen Tsing-Fang (1936)
Oil Painting
1999
Length:50 x Width:60.5 (cm)
This painting was completed by Chen at the age of 63. It depicts the unpredictable changes in and imposing manner of clouds rolling into the high mountains. The wind comes from the top of the cliff faces and whistles through the treetops. Pure white clouds surge like ocean waves. This is an awe-inspiring scene that this artist worked to portray realistically, with his concept slowly unfolding across the canvas. The overlapping of acrylic and oil paint enhances the fortitude and grandeur of the mountains, corresponding to the illusory sea of clouds.
