At the Shore at Dusk

Shih Tsui-Feng (1925-2018)

Watercolor

1978

Length:48 x Width:62 (cm)

Near the center of this scene whitecaps form an S shape, with shades of gray used to express cold. It is almost as if you can feel a bone-chilling gust of wind and the heavy and gloomy atmosphere. Swirling dark and purplish clouds appear threatening and occupy the entire sky. This should be the time that the sun sets. Ripples of water appear on the beach with the rise of the tide. Spray is formed as waves strike against the reef rocks. If stepping onto the shore, you will disturb the fine sand. Sometimes soft and beautiful and sometimes hard and staunch, the variations in the sea at dusk make this scene all the more enchanting.
