Tamsui's Guanyin Mountain Collection Image
Tamsui's Guanyin Mountain

Su Chiu-Tung (1911-2012)

Oil Painting

1985

Length:72.5 x Width:91 (cm)

It is composed of three sections. This is an obvious influence of his early teachers. In the distance is the darkly colored Guanyin Mountain and the blue sky with white clouds. In the middle distance is the Tamsui River with sailboats and junks. In the near distance are anchored several small boats along the riverbank. In the flowing water is reflected the blue sky. The dark colors of the mountain and the colors of the riverbank echo each other. In his later years, Su lived in the US. This choice of subject perhaps was a way of coping with his homesickness.
