There was once a time when merchant ships frequently docked along the banks of the Tamsui River in Dadaocheng. The offices of foreign firms and trading companies formed a harmonious alliance with the neighboring residences, leading to a mix of Eastern and Western architectural styles. Today, we can only walk the old streets at dusk and try and imagine what this area was like in its heyday. This artist depicts a scene from Guide Street in which there are few people, leading viewers along a narrow road from which alleys and lanes intersect. On both sides of this road are old Western-style buildings, evidence of this area's once prosperous era.
