Taiwan's landscapes and tabletop still life paintings were the subjects that Liao was skilled at portraying. Amid this simple still life, there is something extraordinary, such as the superb use of color, light and shade. It also has a tranquil and sincere sense of simplicity. Warm orange hues are used throughout. Red crabs have been placed on green cloth and blue and white plate, their round forms simple and sweet. The year following the completion of this painting, this artist completed a still life of similar composition, with shrimps and oranges. These twin still paintings feature similar background of table and window lattice. They are tranquil and sweet memories of daily life.
