To the right of this ox is a wagon. As it has not been used in a while, it is covered in vines. It as if the ox is moving closer to it, either intentionally or unintentionally. The artist is trying to convey that the ox has broken away from the hard work of plowing the fields and can enjoy a time of leisure. Backlighting was used, as well as Impressionist techniques to capture this peaceful afternoon farm scene.
