September is crab season. In the center of this scene are three crabs that have been placed on lotus leaves. Among them is a female crab with its white abdomen exposed. This brings to mind the succulent taste of crab meat, making one’s mouth water. The shells of the other two crabs are bright red. They must also be very tasty! This artist made use of opaque watercolor to depict this particular seafood of Taiwan, a subtropical island. The colors are rich and the scene lifelike, stimulating the senses of sight and smell through this depiction of a delicious banquet.
