This painting was completed somewhat late in Chen's life. During this time, her works were influenced by her devotion to Buddhism, and her search for inner peace. Therefore,theypossess a reverent and solemn tranquility. White, pink and yellow orchids providecontrast to a dim background. This scene is bright and dazzling, yet also subdued and tranquil. It is painted on silk cloth, concealing light and shadow, and creating a hazy, poetic quality.
