Huang Kuo-Lung (1933-1996)
Oil Painting
Length:115.5 x Width:90 (cm)
The San Ye Zhuang Hotel was constructed during the Japanese occupation era (1895-1945) at the corner of Hengyang Road in Taipei. Its exquisite design is part of the collective life memory of many of Taipei's residents. In 1990, in the interest of progress, it was torn down. This artist reproduces its appearance, as well as the era of rickshaws and San Ye Zhuang ice cream.
The building depicted in this painting was from the Japanese occupation era. But, it was painted 100 years later by a nostalgic Taiwanese artist. Among Taipei residents of the 21st century, there are those who are moved by old paintings and buildings. Seeing scenes from the past can inspire interesting dialogues between parents and children and students and teachers.
