Ran In-Ting(1903-1979)
Ink Painting
1956
Length:19 x Width:29.5 (cm)
In 1951, Ran was invited to head serve as editor-in-chief of the Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction's HARVEST Farm Magazine. As a painter, he often brought Yang Ying-Feng with him on information gathering trips to rural areas. This small painting was produced five years after HARVEST Farm Magazine began to be published. It depicts an early farming settlement next to a lake. In front of a southern Chinese-style red brick residence can be seen village women bent over washing clothes. The water along the surface of the lake flows slowly and a group of ducks is seen searching for food.
If you look in the lower left corner, in addition to red seal, the artist signed his name in both English and Chinese, and also wrote "FORMOSA". His purpose was to show that Taiwan was his home and that this island has beautiful scenery and friendly people.
