Jiufen is situated in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City. Long ago, it was a well-known mining area. However, it experienced decline with the cessation of mining activities. After director Hou Hsiao-Hsien filmed A City of Sadness here, tourists came to see its unique mountainside scenery and architecture. Today, it is a very popular tourist destination.
This painting features a transactional composition. The section in the distance is dominated by purple light with the seascape extending out to the horizon. This gives the scene a feeling of vastness. In the far distance, rolling hills are covered in lush vegetation. In the near distance are the roofs of homes covered in ocher tiles. This artist has a commanding view from Jiufen. This scene is both tranquil and charming.
