Oil Painting

Length:45.5 x Width:53 (cm)
In the foreground, strong and powerful colors are used to portray the roofs and eaves of Tamsui's red brick homes. On the off white walls, blue green and grayish blue create a sense of separation from the mountains and river in the background. Although this is a composition of warm and cold colors, there is harmony. This painting differs from the miner series of works and reveals the artist's affection for the landscapes of Taiwan.
In addition to miners, his subjects included indigenous people, nudes and landscapes. Following his retirement, he moved to the US and followed his dream of producing landscape paintings that seemed to praise the sunlight. Tamsui Little White House was painted when the artist was nearly 70 years old. The blue sky, white clouds and sunlight create a sense of peace, and this work seems to be the predecessor to the landscape paintings produced in his even later years.
