These poinsettias were created using overalapping layers of rich red hues. The blue leaves present a different kind of floral bouquet. This scene is warm and nimble. Fong did not place much emphasis on details. Instead, he vividly outlined the warm rays of the sun shining on the red petals. His painting methods were simple but strong. The composition is of a visual close-up from top to bottom, shortening the distance and making the focal point somewhat blurred. The artist presented a layered look.
Poinsettias was completed by Fong at the age of 45. He was very diligent in creating art works in his middle age. Adept at the use of colors and in his brushstrokes he emphasized texture and volume. His use of colors was similar to that of Post-Impressionist and Fauvist painters. He also emphasized the reflective effects of color and light.
