Roses and Vase

Chen Ching-Jung(1934)

Oil Painting

2005

Length:65.5 x Width:53 (cm)

This painting with its grays and blues has an air of mystery, as well as an atmosphere of quiet melancholy. Traditional composition and low saturation of dark colors are characteristic of this artist's style of expression. This work was completed by this artist at the age of 72. Under the dark blue luxuriant background, there is a white color base, which is embellished with pink and red roses. There is a harmony between the patterns and the textures of the vase and roses. The seemingly fragrant roses bring a sense of peace and sadness.
A sense of isolation or loneliness is characteristic of most of Chen's works. In this painting, Roses and Vase, bright red, pink and white interweave to present a rare example of classic beauty.
