Before the advent of urban planning, there were many narrow, old lanes in Taiwan's cities. This depiction of such a lane on a rainy night was completed by Chang at the age of 49. In the rain, stone tiles and red bricks appear darker in color. The dampened hues emerge under the dim light. The superimposed colors are bold, but elegant, and the spatial arrangement is simple, appearing to reach into the distance, as if leading viewers along a small romantic path into an old city.
