Lan Ching-Hui (1937-)
Oil Painting
2005
Length:65 x Width:80 (cm)
This painting was completed by Lan at the age of 68. This river cuts through the scene with clear division of the banks. A square-shaped composition is used to depict the homes lining the river bank, expanding the three-dimensional effect of this space and encouraging viewers to imagine what lies beyond this scene. The crisscrossing of the spatial layers creates a visual rhythm and clean middle tone, as well as presents the leisurely feel of this small mountain town of Shiding. It is almost as if you are breathing in the fresh morning air in this rural community.
