Chan Fu-Yun (1927-2019)
Oil Painting
1998
Length:60 x Width:72.5 (cm)
This painting was completed by the artist at the age of 71. The sun is setting in the west, filling the sky with a red glow. The sky takes up around three-fifths of the scene, providing backlighting for the boats, ships and cliffs and creating visually intense contrast. Viewers of this work cannot help but be amazed at the beauty and splendor of Nature. Most paintings of harbor scenes focus on the seascapes or vessels. This artist purposefully chose a completely different focus, creating a deep impression.
Chan makes bold use of colors. His paintings are colorful and detailed. He has a conscientious attitude toward his work. Even now, his enthusiasm for painting has not waned. His works reveal a deep sentiment for this land. They often include a brilliantly colored sun and intense color contrasts.
