Flowers, Porcelain Vase and Oranges

Chen Komi(1943)

Eastern Gouache

1997

Length:60.5 x Width:50 (cm)

Although this might seem to be an ordinary still life, it presents the masterful skill of this artist in terms of spatial arrangement. On a dark purple tablecloth sits a valuable-looking blue and white porcelain vase and two eye-catching oranges. On the left side is the artist's seal. These form a triangular composition. There is also a subtle extension of the space. The most outstanding part of this painting are the bright red and pink flowers. It is almost as if they are a giving off a sweet fragrance.
Kuo's Nihonga works feature exquisite brushstrokes and bright colors. They also present this artist's feminine elegance and romantic style.
