This scene is divided transversely. The horizon extends out into the distance, providing a broad and expansive line of sight. The fiery red setting sun releases its last rays of light onto the deep ocean. The ocean falls onto the shore and the waves roll the gravel around. This depiction of ocean waves striking the shore was completed using rapid, overlapping brushstroke. In the near distance, the focus is on the scenery along the shore. Viewers of this work can almost smell the sea air and hear the waves as they pummel the shore.
