Ran In-Ting(1903-1979)
Watercolor
1972
Length:77 x Width:52 (cm)
Accustomed to painting the people of his hometown, Taroko Gorge was not a common subject for Ran. The steep cliff faces, deep and heavy lines in the marble, the astonishingly high peaks that seem to touch the clouds and the roaring river that cut through the rock over thousands of years, recall the awe and admiration at seeing this famous scenic spot for the first time. Ran used the watercolor techniques with which he was so familar to present this subject common to ink landscape paintings. This not only allows people to experience his profound talent, but also his artistic conception of this imposing, yet realistic scene.
