Guanyin Viewed From Tamsui

Sun Ming-Huang (1938-2019)

Oil Painting

1990

Length:41 x Width:52.5 (cm)

This scene is clearly divided into three parts: the sky, the river and the houses. At first glance, observers marvel at the bright color blocks and outstanding composition. On closer observation, the artist boldly painted the houses along the riverbank in simple abstract style, and in red making them obvious and producing a sense of warmth. The purplish mountain and river color blocks reveal the tranquility of nature. It is worth noting that the clouds above the mountain peak represent the silent dialogue among the mountains, river and clouds on a summer afternoon.
Guanyin Viewed From Tamsui features a new style of expression that is between representational and abstract. Of the creative process, Sun once remarked that, "If there is something that moves me, I use the laws of beauty, unique composition, and gentle and elegant colors to present the eternal rhythms of time and nature, reaching a place of harmony and conveying esthetics."
