Lee Shih-Chiao(1908-1995)
Oil Painting
1981
Length:51 x Width:63 (cm)
Lee painted this work, Bitan, when he was 73 years old. It depicts Bitan in the 1980s. In the foreground, rows of round stones form an embankment. At the end of this embankment, a set of hills extends horizontally, separating the blue sky and the blue waters. There is a stable and tight composition, drawing viewers in. Puffy, white clouds float along in an otherwise bright blue sky. A slight breeze blows across the sienna-colored land. This work has a rich rustic quality. The lines are well defined with layers of color and strong contrast
