Remnants of Snow on Yushan

Yang San-Lang(1907-1995)

Oil Painting

1962

Length:72 x Width:91 (cm)

This artist found a spot from which to view this scene on a platform below a pine forest. With the courage and will of a warrior, he wielded his brush like a sword to capture this sacred scene of the remnants of snow on Yushan (Jade Mountain). In the distance are two white-capped peaks. The daylight illuminates the low-lying clouds in the mountain gorge, as well as those above that extend out along the horizon. This romantic and majestic scene is accompanied by thousand-year-old pine trees.
Yang painted from life. He carried his easel with him as he traveled around Taiwan. His perspective shifted with the gorgeous natural landscapes. He waved his brush to capture light and shadow, bringing viewers closer to the beauty of Taiwan!
