Sacred Mountain

Su Jen-Ming (1950-)

Oil Painting

1997

Length:49 x Width:50 (cm)

The mountains in this painting resemble ocher and bright green gemstones. Su made use of oil painting sticks and black contours to enhance the layering of the mountains. This scene is of the sun coming out following a late afternoon fall rain. Everything in Nature has been washed clean and the mountains appear clear and fresh. There is mist and the rays of sunlight make the hillside tea plantations of Muzha sparkle as if sacred mountains.
Su uses ocher, dark green and sapphire blue hues to present the vitality of the mountains and a resplendent scene following a storm. It is also a testament to the variable climate and diverse ecology of Taiwan.
